"You want to write a sentence as clean as a bone. That is the goal."
-- James Baldwin
I hold a BA in English from the University of Iowa and an MFA in Fiction with Distinction from Texas State University, where I co-founded the program's online literary journal and had the good fortune of studying with the late, great Denis Johnson, among others. In the past fifteen years, I've taught writing courses at both large and small colleges in Texas, New Mexico, and California, started a boutique legacy book publishing company, and continued writing (and not writing!) the entire time.
My fiction, nonfiction, interviews, and reviews have appeared online or in print at Los Angeles Review of Books, Phoebe, Bloom, American Book Review, Southwestern American Literature, and elsewhere. My literary work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, an AWP Intro Journals Award, and for inclusion in the Best New American Voices anthology; my digital content and strategy work on public service campaigns with RK Venture has garnered numerous Silver, Gold, and Best in Show ADDY Awards; and I was awarded the Best Part-Time Instructor of the Year Award at the University of New Mexico.
